The Judo Moral Code – Leading with Character and Integrity

This month, we celebrate our pride in working alongside the International Judo Federation (IJF). Our collaboration is rooted in a shared belief that leadership is not just about positions of power, but about the character of the person holding them.

The Judo Moral Code serves as the ultimate blueprint for elite leadership. At Women Lead Sports, we integrate these eight values into our curriculum because they are the foundation of what we call Ethical Governance:

  • Courtesy & Respect: Treating all stakeholders with dignity, a non-negotiable for inclusive sports environments.
  • Courage & Honesty: Having the bravery to do what is right and the sincerity to be transparent in action.
  • Honour & Modesty: Being faithful to your word while leading without ego or arrogance.
  • Self-Control & Friendship: Managing emotions under pressure and building the "purest human feelings" to support mutual growth.

Our work with the IJF, specifically alongside visionary leaders like Larisa Kiss, proves that when we empower women and girls through these values, we create a ripple effect. Larisa’s work in development is a testament to the fact that true leadership is about creating leaders who create other leaders. Only when we have successfully mentored the next generation to lead with this same moral compass can we truly call ourselves leaders.
